300-year-old La Provence Wine Estate lies nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley. Managed by 3rd generation wine growers, it offers breathtaking views of the majestic surrounding mountains, vineyards and gardens. Owners Johan and Carin Roux Van Rensburg, welcome guests from all over the world with warm South African hospitality and treat them to a truly unique and personal experience on a working wine farm, the perfect location to spend a holiday.
La Provence is conveniently located only minutes from charming downtown Franschhoek filled with renowned restaurants, curio stores and art galleries. Stretching across a 100 hectares of vineyard and peach orchards, La Provence offers visitors the opportunity to sample home-grown wines, sun-ripened peaches and peace and quiet.
La Provence Bed and Breakfast accommodation consists of quaint cottages set in lush gardens. There is a large natural pool fed by spring water from the mountains to cool down after practicing on a stunningly located private tennis court, and several beautiful walking/running trails leading through the grape and peach orchards to the nearby tranquil Franschhoek River. During the winter season, guests can enjoy the warmth of a cosy fireplace after exploring the Cape Winelands in its “romantic season”.
With Cape Town less than a 1-hour drive and Paarl and Stellenbosch a mere 20 minute drive away, La Provence is ideally situated for an escape to the Cape winelands.
La Provence Estate can accommodate up to 16 guests in five charming Vineyard Cottages overlooking the vineyards and majestic Franschhoek Mountains. Guests have the option of selecting Bed & Breakfast or Self-Catering for their stay.
Vineyard Cottages are open year round and consist of a spacious bedroom, living area, bathroom with shower, and fully equipped kitchenette. Additional amenities include wood fireplace, flat-screen television, free WiFi access, air conditioning, and sunny verandas that offer private barbecue facilities.
La Provence offers private, family-friendly suites that can accommodate various sized groups.

La Provence breakfasts are served daily on the enclosed veranda of the historic manor house overlooking lush Estate gardens.
Breakfast includes a cold buffet with fresh fruit juice, fruit in season, a choice of muesli, yogurt, cheese and cold meats served with Carin’s homemade breads and rolls, with the option of adding a warm English breakfast. The English breakfast includes eggs of your choice, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and freshly brewed coffee and tea.
Activities for Guests
Guests are welcome to enjoy the following activities during their stay:
Tennis court – Hone your tennis skills on a court located among the lush vineyards and overlooking the spectacular Simonsberg for daytime or evening play. Carin is a provincial tennis player and certified coach, and offers guests the option to book a single or multiple coaching sessions with her. Rackets and balls are available upon request.
Swimming pool – Take a dip in the large, freshwater swimming pool. The cemented farm dam is filled by natural spring water from a fountain up in the neighboring Franschhoek Mountain.
Gardens – Embrace the peaceful qualities of farm life while strolling through the breath-taking gardens that have been blooming seasonally for over a century.
Wine cellar tour/tasting – Book a tour of historic La Provence cellar with winemaker, Johan, and taste his special wines straight from the vats. Johan is especially proud of his port.
Ostrich feeding – Meet Jack and Susie, the Van Rensburg family’s ostriches residing on the Estate. During certain hours of the day guests can join Johan for feeding, and in the summer season guests can see the pair proudly protecting their eggs. Stroke Jack’s neck and feed them pellets by hand.
Peach picking & packing – During the harvesting season in November, guests are welcome to pick and pack peaches – and taste the wonderful fruit as well.
Wine harvesting – In late February and March, Johan harvests his wine grapes, and invites guests to join him and pick their own basket. Guests may also observe the crushing and pressing process. They can also sample fresh pressed grape juice and the fermenting juice, known as must (or Federweisser). View Merlot, Cabernet, Semillon and other Cape wines in the making!
Hiking trails – Spend an hour or half a day exploring the vineyards and peach orchards. Nearby trails wind to the top of the 1,618 meter Wemmershoek Mountain peak. The owners’ pack of Lassie Collie dogs are excellent guides and will gladly escort you!
Shooting – Join Johan on an expedition around the farm to catch wild Guinea Fowls.
